Getting access to a homebirth seems to vary from area to area and knowing the midwives who will be at your birth is not always guaranteed.
To see the birth statistics for the U.K have a look at the birth choice Uk site www.birthchoiceuk.com.

I would also recommend the homebirth UK site for access to good birth stories and homebirth reference summaries, www.homebirth.org.uk.

Many women who have experienced a successful homebirth have found it to be a profoundly moving and intimate experience.

  • To give birth in a familiar place surrounded by your own things

  • Be with people you know and trust

  • No separation from loved ones after the baby is born

  • Time to rest and relax in own home

  • No separation from older children

  • Less risk of infection

  • Women having a homebirth tend to need less analgesia

  • There is no conclusive evidence to suggest that a hospital birth is any safer for a healthy mother and baby
